Linas, thanks again. Turns out I already had the fix but it didn't work. https://github.com/AbiWord/abiword/commit/de9d8544500fefec944ff52b5920b5fada675bb9 I think my build failed because the generated Makefile.in didn't have the fancy 5.1 checking so I simplified the patch and now it works fine.
