Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you?, Can you please

No, liveCD was probably suggested just for convenience if you did not
have Hardy installed - testing your installed Hardy partition would be
sufficient.
I don't know how to solve this problem, however my one observation would
be that this is likely an ACPI issue rather than something specific to
I'm running Hardy with latest updates and this still doesn't work for me
either.
I don't use gnome-power-manager (just xscreensaver's power management),
but even running 'xset dpms force off' doesn't switch off the backlight.
My X driver is 'savage'.

The problem is most definitely at either the ACPI level, or the X server
/ driver level. As I mentioned, I don't use G-P-M and I've had this
problem ever since Feisty.

I've got a Fujitsu Siemens C1410 with intel graphics, and I've set the
power-manager to turn the screen off after 6 minutes. Sometimes the
screen turns black (backlight still on) and sometimes the screen doesn't
even turn black. This started when upgrading to Gutsy. On my other
computer (VIA EPIA)
Same problem on Toshiba Portege 3480CT. The last version I remember the
backlight being able to turn off with xscreensaver and xset was Edgy.

I should note this bug was filed on a Toshiba Tecra M7. Duncan's
comment suggests this might be model specific =(
