RNA seq is essentially the same as DNA seq. There is just an extra step in which a reverse transcriptase enzyme turns RNA into DNA. The issue at hand is that you have to sample frequently as RNA is short-lived. You also have to keep the samples in the cold or treat them with an inhibitor for the enzyme that degrades RNA. My guess is that the limit here is how fast you can sample without hurting the octopus.
