ok - so what I have seen is.
Livesession - reboot works in kvm/hardware.
Reboot does not work from INSTALL in any of the arch's or type of
install that I tried - vbox/kvm/hardware.
Tested in Ubuntu 64bit and Xubuntu 32/64 bit.

Possibly affects bare metal install as well - tested on AMD Athlon XP
5000+, 4GB RAM, HDD 120GB, LCD on DVI; boot from DVD-RW: step 15+16 -
prompt to remove media and press Enter did not appear, disk was ejected
from the DVD-ROM drive, system hanged with screen suspended; after hard
reset booted
There is a remote possibility that reading the DVD-RW was not 100%
correct at all times. -- does not seem to be the case, the same
behaviour repeated 3+ times on the same hw setup.

I've tested both the Ubuntu GNOME and Ubuntu 20150417.1 amd64 images on
bare metal and if the installation is started from the live DE all works
as expected, but if you you choose Install while the image is booting
I need to amend my last comment. I just performed another installation
on the same hardware starting from the live DE and I once again ended up
with just a black screen after selecting Restart - this time with Ubuntu
Mate amd64 but I doubt it's flavor specific maybe it's just
more
For Ubuntu 15.04 Release candidate 4/17/15 running on Virtualbox 4.3.26,
live session, the guest fails to shut down or restart. Do I need to
open a separate bug report for that? Please advise.

guest 4.3.26 - after clicking Restart now, the display/the guest
freezes. A hard power off, and restart reveals the install went fine.

I've performed two more tests, one with Ubuntu GNOME - the other with
Ubuntu Mate, and as I pay closer attention just after the disk is
ejected my LCD display shows No signal input very briefly as the
screen goes black. So it almost seems that X is freezing, or could X
just be shutting down
re * cyphermox claims this does NOT happen in the live session
My findings for the livesession fails to shutdown properly issue were
that in VirtualBox (repo version not Oracle) it fails.
Using qemu/virt-manager or hardware and it did shutdown properly after
hitting Enter.

- Install a dialy 0417 desktop iso of lubuntu then boot to the live
- desktop and get to when it will say information is complete and click
- the reboot now log. I am booting from a usb that was made using dd
- after I zsynced it.
