Public bug reported: So I found a new kernel in Trusty repos, this time backported from Vivid (so it's 3.19), and decided to try it out in my Trusty installation in VirtualBox:
$ sudo apt-get install linux-image-generic-lts-vivid linux-headers- generic-lts-vivid Metapackages pulled in the real image and headers packages: linux-headers-3.19.0-18 linux-headers-3.19.0-18-generic linux-image-3.19.0-18-generic linux-image-extra-3.19.0-18-generic And it went on, to the point where it should rebuild DKMS modules. That's where it stumbled: run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/dkms 3.19.0-18-generic /boot/vmlinuz-3.19.0-18-generic Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 3.19.0-18-generic (x86_64) Consult /var/lib/dkms/virtualbox-guest/4.3.18/build/make.log for more information. The build fail log is in the attachment. Please patch the guest additions so they'd support 3.19 kernel. ** Affects: virtualbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: trusty ** Attachment added: "guest additions build fail log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1458596/+attachment/4404190/+files/vbox-guest-additions-fail.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1458596 Title: vbox guest additions fail to build with backported vivid kernel in trusty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox/+bug/1458596/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
