It is probably related to your hardware, since most people aren't seeing
it. You should put detailed report about your hardware here (especially
graphics hardware), and maybe search for existing, similar bug reports.

I'm somewhat busy currently and don't have access to my Linux install, but I
will point out something that I think is related to the issue - the fact
that my system has a widescreen display. I have a feeling that the code to
do the splash screen on Gutsy is somehow messed up in the way it handles
I also see this behavior since early tribe releases, but thought it will be
fixed on later versions.
Now It is happening in the beta release too, is very ugly.
