I've been using it for some days and it behaves in a very strange way. When I

command as above, I don't use libpam_encfs). The only thing I did was to
add the noatime option to my root partition (ext3). I haven't done
anything else. It's strange.

encfs is not working on gutsy
I am successfully running encfs libpam_encfs under Gusty Beta on two
different machines. Libpam_encfs will handle the mounting and unmounting
of the drives as user logs in.
Not sure where your problem arises, encrypted store would normally be
'/home/.enc/other_user/', with both user and group
