I have a similar problem with a Dell 2407 (1920x1200) primary monitor and Dell 1905 (1280x1024) secondary monitor. I can get the primary monitor to display at 1920x1200, but the Gnome panel at top of screen and the bottom panel are sized and positioned as if the screen is 1280x1024 - ie the top pan
