On my system, an Acer Aspire 5570Z, I don't see the taskbar panel on login. It appears after I click in the desktop area where it should be at the bottom of the screen. I'm running Ubuntu Gutsy with the latest updates as of 10-07-2007. I have desktop effects turned on. -- The Task-bar Panel

I've narrowed-down the source of the problem to compiz. If you disable it from loading under System-Preferences-Sessions-Startup Programs, the problem will go-away. This will-of course also disable the fancy effects :( Anyway, the issue looks to be related to compiz. -- The Task-bar Panel
