Hi,
This bug was reported by many before Gutsy was released. The cause and
solution were found months ago on the ubuntu forums. Is a fix for this
bug going to be coming for Gutsy?

Same issue as described above. Just downloaded did a fresh install of

Hi,
I have the same problem on the RC I installed today. I have a ThinkPad
T40 laptop, with a Radeon 7500 video card. No usplash either at all.
lsmod |grep fb gave me a blank prompt.
My usplash.conf is the following:
# Usplash configuration file
xres=1280
yres=1024
I'll try and change it to
Nope, that didn't work either. No usplash still.

I have the exact same problem as the original poster. But I don't think
it's related to Xorg, because the problem occurs way before X is
started.
The symptoms: If I install Gutsy Beta and upgrade to current, it works
normally. If I install Gutsy RC (and optionally upgrade, doesn't
matter), the
For those who are seeing this problem, could you please send the output
of lsmod |grep fb? I'm wondering here about the relation to

lsmod |grep fb produces no output here. But I managed to solve the
problem. The contents of /etc/usplash.conf were initially xres=1280
yres=1024, which the laptop display can't handle. I changed that to
xres=1280 yres=800, and then had to execute sudo update-usplash-theme

Andrew, your issue is not related to the original reporters since you're
using a completely different model of video card. Please enter a new

Wish I could edit comments.
Oddly it recognized the correct resolution as 1680*1050. Not sure why it is not
showing up on monitor incorrectly.

Testing the RC now I am able to get to the desktop without getting the monitor
error, although the monitor says it is processing/adjusting the image when
first booting. And the resolution is way off.
Took a picture of that:

My video card is an intel G965 X3000. It is doing that correctly.
The only thing similar between original poster and me is that we both got
monitor errors that would not display anything on the screen.
