I've also devised a simple workaround:
martin@dogmeat ~ % cat /etc/rsyslog.d/20-gcr-prompter-discard.conf
# gcr-prompter logs debug info to /var/log/auth.log
# https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcr/+bug/
