VMware Server 1.0.4 tarball installs properly on Ubuntu Gutsy
Confirmed - Thanks for the information :)
Download VMware-server-1.0.4-56528.tar.gz from www.vmware.com/download/server/
Then issue these commands:
aptitude install linux-headers-`uname -r` build-essential
aptitude install xinetd
cd
Note that you need to uninstall the feisty version of vmware server
before installing the tarball version.
Unfortunately, synaptic doesn't remove everything - which prevents you
from installing the new version.
I had to delete the /etc/vmware directory to allow the new version to
install. This

Gutsy.
In order to move closer to defeating BUG #1 we need to be able to

Server packages.
However, the upstream VMware Server 1.0.4 tarball installs properly on
Ubuntu Gutsy, but it is not managed by the packaging system, so you'll

I just noticed that the tone in the original bugreport is slightly
