Public bug reported:

I tried all the help pages I could find several times over. no success.
posted on Ubuntu help. The question was voted down, no response. I have
a useless machine. Why bother with Linux when there's no assistance? I
did get the wifi working at one stage, however, after a shut down and
restart it didn't work again.

I am not a programmer but can follow simple instructions (copy & paste
into a terminal is OK for me). .

BCM43142 wl 14e4:4365
"no wireless extensions"
Sony Vaio svf14a18scp
Latest version of Ubuntu (just installed)

I do have a wired internet connection now, but the machine has to be
wireless when returned to the owner.

Urgent assistance is required. Please do something.

regards
Peter
