I can confirm this: with no extensions and plugins, this problem is
still occuring. am on gutsy. This started happening since the last
couple of days.

I've done a clean reinstall and this is not an issue with a fresh
install. The upgrade install where this was a problem is now gone (HDD
repartitioned and used), so I can't be of any further use here.
