Public bug reported:

I use Ubuntu GNOME 16.04, the trackpad (touchpad) features does not
work. I can move cursor, but tapping and scrolling does not work. It is
working perfectly in 14.04 on my dual boot 14.04/16.04. Moreover, in
16.04 there is no trackpad option under mouse and touchpad (settings).

I followed this procedure without succeed:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection (Section 2/4),
requested files are attached. There is no Xorg-log in /var/log/, I so I
provide

cat /proc/bus/input/devices > ~/devices

xinput --list | tee ~/xinput

cat /var/lib/gdm3/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log | tee Xorg.0.log

I would be grateful for any help provided.
