Please specify how you installed and setup scim. AFAIK, with
zh_CN.UTF-8 locale, if you use Ubuntu's Language Support configuration
tool to install Chinese support as well as input method, OR simply
install scim-pinyin (if you use WuBi, then scim-tables-zh) and im-
