I just tested on 4.6.0-9-generic from the ubuntu kernel team and it
doesn't have the underlying VDSO issues, so I think this is fixed.
Please re-open if you still have this issue.

Ok, I believe this is a problem with the 4.6 series kernel. I can't
reproduce it on the xenial kernel, but I can on yakkity's. I've started
a thread upstream to discuss.
