This problem also appears, if you have a wrong configuration for the
wireless network (like wrong encryption for the password). In this case
the same crash appears. If the connection is configured correctly it is
working just fine.
So like stated before, the workaround is to configure everything

connecting to a wireless network :
- if I enter and store a wrong password in the gnome keyring (only for this
user option),
- or if a wrong password is already stored in the gnome keyring.

For me, connecting to a different network works just fine. I could not
find any difference between those two networks while the working one is
hosted by a "Fritz!Box" by AVM and the not working one is hosted by a
"D-Link" device that links back to the working one via wired Ethernet
connection.

Can confirm this behaviour. But it is only occuring with a second user I just
added to my system.
The main user (created at install time) works flawlessly.
I can reproduce like this:
- Start laptop and log into user two.
- Select WiFi in the nm-applet.
- The WiFi symbol of the nm-applet does
The "when connecting to a wireless network, around password prompt" part
is not obvious to me. The wireless connection works, then nm-applet
fails later on on the assert. I have not seen any password prompt.
