I am under the impression that you have resolved this issue by returning
to the default driver included with Ubuntu for your particular graphics
card - is that correct?

Yes but I don't can run Buryl or 3D in Ubuntu and I don't can use any software
with direct rendering .
My other computer with a NVIDIA card can run this and 3D .

on ATI website or in System →Administration→Restricted Drivers in Ubuntu.
I've already test install it with envy software but my screen is white after
reboot .
Now I use the default drivers for the graphic card .
