That controller is actually a PATA controller with some very nasty PATA-
SATA gludge added on top of it. It is a wonder it ever works anywhere in
any conditions. Try Hardy Heron though before despair, you never know...

Unforutnately this issue has not been solved. I now have to wait until I cann
afford to upgrade my motherboard with one that has more native sata ports.
I am also very disappointed with the support that I received about this issue
as when I posted it I was a new ubuntu user and although quite au
OOps, here is the output of my /etc/fstab file

Here is the output of dmesg from my bootup of the Feisty Live DvD and also the
fstab file.
Here everything works as it should including most importantly, the Sata hdd
plugged into the Highpoint 1540 SATA 4port interface card..
