Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

In Gutsy, things were working (well, honestly, did test about 5 mins).
Then upgraded to Hardy (manually replaced 'gutsy' by 'hardy' in
/etc/sources.list, then sudo apt-get dist-upgrade).

Now, windows open, but whatever I do, nothing change on the screen.
Suppose I open Applications/Accessoires/Editeur de texte, then type a line in
the editor, nothing would appears.
But then, if I Ctrl-Alt-F3, then Alt-F7, my line of text is there. Scroll bars
do nothing either, except if I go to a console, then return with Alt-F7.
Buttons don't really appears. Really, nothing update inside windows. Even when
going to a console with Ctrl-Alt-F3, screen was remaining black.

I had first tried to install Gutsy xserver-xorg-video-intel .deb binary
package, ignoring conflicts, but that was a bad idea, xorg not able to
start, switch the Failsafe mode. Things were updating fine in VESA, but
resolution was limited to 800x600. I then reinstalled old
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.1 on /etc/X11/xorg.conf, then replaced 'intel' by
'i810' as "driver", then tried to Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. But Ctrl-Alt-
Backspace did not seemed to really take my changes into account. So I
rebooted and it was fine (high resolution again). And screen update
normally.

Summary: using i810 is a workaround for screen not updating anymore

I have a i945GZ chipset.
Was having current version: 2:2.1.1-4ubuntu2 of xserver-xorg-video-intel.

I may try to get source, try to learn how to build it, and try to find which
version exactly cause problems.
But it may take me some days.
