Binary package hint: hal
Install Gutsy on Thinkpad X31.
Build a custom 2.6.23 kernel with ACPI and deprecated. Boot it.
g-p-m shows no battery (only AC power status) and hal-device-manager
shows no batteries.
The stock kernel 2.6.20-16-generic works fine (but doesn't have dynticks
or power debugging so I can't get much info from powertop)
