Well, the principal GUI way to change language and locale is via System
Settings -> Language Support.

I could have suggested you to switch to the Regional Formats tab there
and select something else but "English (United States)". But
It is not something a user would expect happens and therefore not very
user-friendly.
You can't expect an ordinary user to know how to change the .profile
file...

It's because AM/PM is set in the en_US.UTF-8 locale, which controls the
time format at most places on your desktop, including the time notations
for those locations. One way to fix it is to open the ~/.profile file
for editing and append the line:
export LC_TIME=en_DK.UTF-8
