The bug is still present Ubuntu 20.04.
When copying files to an external SSD, no progress bar appears, and it
misleads me to disconnect the SDD before copying is finished.

Yea this is still happening, I have 18.04.2 LTS. Actually there's
another design problem with this- the little window isn't wide enough;
it has to "..." and so I can't see the transfer rate. There's no way to
adjust the size of the little mini window unlike an actual window.

I have the same bug and can confirm the following within several
systems:
16.04, 16.10, 17.04, 17.10 and 18.04 (ubuntu standardversion without any
Desktop manager customizations)
If I copy from Desktop into a nautilus-window or if I copy from a
nautilus window to the Desktop I will have no copy o
I forgot to mention, that I am using Ubuntu Budgie 18.04.

This still exists in 18.04.
The biggest issue is that currently there is no way to cancel a file
copy batch.

Yeah ofcourse the circle appears sometimes.
Although, the circle icon on the top of the window doesn't appear always (most
of the time) when copying/moving large files from one media/location to another.

Thank you for your bug report, that's not a bug though but an upstream design
decision. The copy indicator is a circle icon in the top bar, you can click on
it to have the details of the copy.
The file on right clicking is another problem see bug #1632027

I am having the same issue here in Ubuntu Budgie 17.10.
The indiactor (progress bar) doesnt show up when copying files (mostly large
files) most of the time. Only shows up sometimes maybe by luck. Have
reinstalled the system twice, yet to no avail.
Hoping it to be fixed asap.
