LM is a simply wonderful font family. I've published several books using
it. I'm surprised that no one else seems to care that it can't be used
in OOo.

I can reproduce this here (kubuntu 8.04). Moreover in OOo-Writer Latin
Modern is only available as LMRoman10, LMSans10, LMSansQuotation8,
LMTypewriter10, LMTypewriterVarWD10. The LMTypewriter10 and LMRoman10 is
a small caps only.
