Public bug reported:

I have a mail server on feisty which uses ldap for user authentication. The
machine is a dell 2900, don't know whether that information is important or
not, and I use hard RAID 1. I tried to upgrade to gutsy twice, with no success:
that means that the upgrade goes well till the end, but after restart I can't
login, nor from passwd, nor from ldap. The daemons doesn't start too. BUT, if
I go in single mode I' am able to start all the daemons; even slapd, and I can
authenticate it's users.

I uninstalled ldap-auth-client and ldap-auth-config packages, I changed
nsswitch.conf, changed common* files in pam.d and let only passwd. After
reboot, no login possible. This looks like it's not a ldap authentication
problem, BUT it's the only different thing from other feisty to gutsy upgrades
that I have done and went well (two lamp servers).

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
