Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-14-generic

First off, I am copying a portion of text from another bug report I submitted
about this chipset/module.
It didn't seem right to add this new problem to the existing ticket since it
wasn't the same issue.

Per this bug report (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22/+bug/158045
 )
and all the problems surrounding ipw3945--including my own connection dropping
under x86 and inoperability
under amd64--I started using the iwl3945 module as a replacement.

When using the iwl3945 module, I am unable to connect to a 128-bit wep
encrypted network. The correct encryption
key has been stored (and used successfully from previous uses of the ipw3945
module), but even when I disable
network manager to set it up manually, it fails to pass traffic. This module
seems to handle WPA2 encrypted networks
fine, but doesn't like WEP.

Some of the pertinent output from dmesg (it keeps going with similar messages
for a while):
