https://flathub.org/apps/details/org.gnome.Rhythmbox3 via flatpak and
the problem is gone
I have ubuntu 20.04.

This bug is still alive and well. Every station does it, It plays for about a
minute then throws an error.
It mostly always happens while either closing a window, or alt-tab focus change
on a window.

I cannot reproduce this issue on the latest Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS (
rhythmbox - 3.4.2-4ubuntu1 ) with the default radio stations shipped
with rhythmbox. I tried with and without crossfade.
If this issue is still reproducible, please provide the following
information:
1. Mention the station URL.
2.
Seeing the issue still with Version: 3.4.2-4ubuntu1. Radio streams just stop
with the "internal data stream error". Other players such (VLC, TuneIn app)
play the same stations/URLs just fine.
It takes at most a few minutes for the error to occur so it renders Rhythmbox
completely useless as

Same here, Ubuntu 18.04.1, Rhythmbox 3.4.2-4ubuntu1.
Some stations regularly skip, others stop playing after half a minute.
The problem is less visible with crossfade between tracks switched off.
