just tested your new package 5.2.10-dfsg-6ubuntu18.04.1 from proposed.
and
VBoxManage modifyvm "Machine_name" --audioout on is WORKING
as expected.

be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox/5.2.10
-dfsg-6ubuntu18.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.
