After confirmation by reporter that nvidia drivers ok, I will close this
bug as fixed.
If anyone experiences a similar issue they can re-open the bug report.

I just did a fresh install (alpha 2--live cd) and got the system to be
usable. Now, there is no restricted program to launch in the system
administration menu. What up with the nvidia driver?

There isn't supposed to be a restricted drivers manager - it is
currently being rewritten, but you are able to install it via
add/remove. Make sure to read your nvidia driver's description. It
usually says, to enable this driver, run sudo nvidia-glx-config enable .
