Right. That makes sense now, after I gave up on this particular disk's boot process, but later was forced to learn enough about bios/EFI to find creative ways to get around bios/EFI boot issues. So I take it grub-update or grub-install are simply not able to do the right thing? Or both things. Tha

Your disk is currently partitioned to boot in bios mode, but you booted the installer in EFI mode. You either need to boot the installer in bios mode, or partition the disk using GPT and set up an EFI system partition to install in EFI mode. This will be done for you if you choose the "use entire d
