you can always boot the previous kernel to make the grub fix for the
more recent kernel, or edit the menu.lst before rebooting. Not really a
solution, but possibly a good workaround

Hey, I am not sure, but my brother told me that after his Ubuntu Gutsy
installation, the screen remained black - not sure whether he was
patient enough to wait for gdm, but perhaps there is a connection...
