I have had some freezing issues at login when enabling nvidia drivers on
Ubuntu 18.04 with a custom driver config. It ended up being that nouveau
was never successfully blacklisted due to this:

Stuck on boot of my PC after switching to
@Yuan-Chen, no I have not installed other versions of Nvidia proprietary
drivers with Ubuntu on this PC.
If you want I can try to install on a partition of my hard drive previous
versions of Nvidia drivers on Ubuntu 18.10 (now I have a partition with Ubuntu
18.10 newly installed). If needed I
@Carla, On that machine, did you ever successfully install other version
of Nvidia proprietary driver with Ubuntu ? If yes, can you provide the
version of ubuntu and Nvidia driver ?
To get ubuntu version, you can use command:
"lsb_release -a" and paste the output.
To get nvidia proprietary

Could you please attach the journal from the boot that failed?
You can get a list of the boots with the command: journalctl --list-boots
Then the journal of a given boot with: journalctl -b [id]
Where id is correspond to the id of the boot returned by list-boots
