There are some discussion in clipit github [1]. There is a little
workaround for the history by just pressing long enough. No solution,
people suggesting just move to different clipboard mangers.

Broken on 19.04, at least under unity-desktop. Downgrading works,
however the notification icon is a red circle with a diagonal line going

This is still not working, but also I don't see that a new version is
available. Whenever I update, it installs 1.4.4+git20190202-1, which
doesn't work. Is Fix Released really the correct state?

clipit opens and displays in the Unity panel on 18.10, preferences

After upgrading from 18.04 to 18.10, the shortcuts to display the paste
menu no longer work.
