this is the error I got in add /remove
Cannot install 'openoffice.org-calc'
This application conflicts with other installed software. To install
'openoffice.org-calc' the conflicting software must be removed first.
Switch to the 'synaptic' package manager to resolve this conflict.

this was a typical synaptic error message
openoffice.org:
Depends: openoffice.org-core (=1:2.3.0-1ubuntu5) but 1:2.3.0-1ubuntu5.3 is to
be installed
Depends: openoffice.org-calc but it is not going to be installed
Depends: openoffice.org-impress but it is not going to be installed
Depends: o
When I tried to use add / remove it said there were errors and I would
have to ue synaptic. When synaptic was used a lot of OO apps were listed
but I again was unable to install them.

I'm unable to confirm this. It probably has to do with an error in the
upgrade process. What terms did you search for in Synaptic? What exactly
happens when you try to install using Add/Remove?
