I cannot verify as of when this issue started. I did use the USB devices in question with 18.04.1 (prior to the upgrade to 18.10) and they did work fine. Currently I have no chance to test a newer kernel. Will do as soon as possible It happens with USB-Sticks and some USB3.0 hard disks. -- You

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.20
