Public bug reported: Binary package hint: lshw
Using the command: sudo lshw > <filename> lshw writes out null characters in the serial ID of some cdroms. Example: *-cdrom description: DVD reader product: DVD-ROM SR-8583 vendor: COMPAQ physical id: 1 bus info: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:0.0.0 logical name: /dev/cdrom logical name: /dev/dvd logical name: /dev/scd0 logical name: /dev/sr0 version: A50A serial: [###COMPAQ DVD-ROM SR-8583 A50APM 07/27/98 ^^^ ### = null characters [EMAIL PROTECTED]@^@ This creates a problem when attempting to open the file in gedit. gedit apparently sees the null characters in the file and interprets the file as binary. Therefore gedit will not open the file. (Note: the file can be opened in nano, OpenOffice Writer, vim, etc.). ** Affects: lshw (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- lshw writes out null characters https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183620 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
