It seems to only happen when using a Wayland GNOME session; it doesn't
happen when both GDM and GNOME are using X11, nor does it happen when
GDM is using Wayland but GNOME is using X11. I suppose it's probably not
really a GDM issue then, but rather a GNOME issue.

I don't know how to reproduce the issue, other than it occasionally
happens when I open my laptop. I'm using Wayland for both GDM and the
GNOME session, on a laptop with Intel graphics (HD Graphics 5500 on an
Intel Core i5-5200U).
I will be running GDM and GNOME on X11 for a while from now to see
