Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-14-server

I've the above kernel running on a Compaq Deskpro EN Series SFF, with an older
BIOS (before 2000). (Dapper,Feisty,Gutsy now.)
until now it wasn't possible to power-off the computer correctly, because the
kernel complained that the bios is too old and recommended to switch on the
acpi=force option.

I did that - but no change.
The kernel IGNORES the "acpi=force" option.
part of my my grub.conf:

title           Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-server
root            (hd0,0)
kernel          /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-server root=UUID=XXXXXXX  ro acpi=force
quiet splash
initrd          /boot/initrd.img-2.6.22-14-server

Then I discovered (by accident) that if I cut the "quiet" option, THE
ACPI=FORCE WORKS.

That's very strange - maybe it should be that way, but I didn't find
anything, so I file that bug here.

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.22 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
