Hi psl, to your question, this modules-extra package should be depending on the kernel meta package, so it should be automatically updated when you run dist-upgrade. For example, in this case below if my computer have linux-image-generic- hwe-20.04 installed, this modules-extra package will be up

Package linux-modules-extra-5.3.0-28-generic was installed but package linux-modules-extra-5.3.0-40-generic was not installed. I installed linux-modules-extra-5.3.0-40-generic and I can boot linux with that kernel, problem fixed. Thank you for the advice! Do I need manually install linux-modules
