Unable to boot to desktop with Matrox G200eR2 (Dell Poweredge R420)

After successfully installing Ubuntu 20.04 using UEFI with ZFS on my
Poweredge R420, it booted to a purple/black screen with a mouse cursor.
The mouse was not responsive and I could not use the system.
I was able to boot to the grub menu and use nomodeset on the
Syslog output from "sudo service gdm3 start"
