Public bug reported: As posted on http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/news.html MPlayer 1.4 was released in April 2019. If fixes a compatibility issue with ffmpeg affecting various codecs but not evident with all video files (luckily), e.g. hevc and flac, resulting in image freeze followed by gray image gradually augmented with delta content until the next I frame.
