This STILL is present in Ubuntu Intrepid (2.6.27-9). In my case b44 (wired connection) loads ssb before ndiswrapper (wifi). Blacklisting ssb does not work because then wired connections fail, and update-initramfs -u does nothing for me. However, A far easier fix to the issue for end users is to
