OK, bad news then... This appears to be a kernel/hardware bug unique to
your laptop. It's pretty rare but I have also seen it before on Lenovo
X230s (I think).
Next I suggest trying a live boot of Ubuntu 20.04:

or just trying newer kernels:

Just checked, and the elliptic hysteresis feature (to remove grid-like
movement) is in libinput 1.10.2, so you should have the fix already.

The problem is that you are using the old driver where this bug was
never fixed... Please just uninstall that driver:
sudo apt remove xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
