Find whether you are running ubuntu in x11 mode or wayland mode. The following could help: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/202891/how-to-know-whether- wayland-or-x11-is-being-used If you are running in wayland mode, can you logout and login in x11 mode, and see if the issue happens.
