You have been subscribed to a public bug: I copied xubuntu-20.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso to a USB using usb-creator- gtk inside Lubuntu 18.04.5. I was able to boot into the Xubuntu live USB and run many of the applications. When I then installed Xubuntu, the process crashed every time during "copying files" after entering my name, username and password.
The error message was about errors in CD/DVD (but checks at the live USB boot screen reported no errors) and suggested slowing down the write process (not possible with USB) or trying at a cooler temperature. The same problem occurred when I went straight to "Install Xubuntu" without "Try Xubuntu". The crash has been captured and the log files sent by Apport. I tried different USB drives and different versions of Ubuntu. These all produced the same error: xubuntu-20.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso xubuntu-20.04-desktop-amd64.iso ubuntu-20.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso Using the same USB drive, I was successful when installing these (so it was not because of a faulty USB drive): lubuntu-20.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso ubuntu-20.04.1-live-server-amd64.iso debian-10.5.0-amd64-xfce-CD-1.iso In the end, I found a workaround by using the "minimal CD" from "http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/focal/main/installer- amd64/current/legacy-images/netboot/mini.iso" and select a full Xubuntu desktop during installation. Two comments: 1. How can I locate the bug and help you investigate this? It was difficult to get any information when the system crashed in the middle of an installation (cannot use CTRL+ALT+T to get a terminal). 2. Can a link to the "minimal CD" be placed at a more prominent place on your website? It was very difficult to find. A minimal CD is also a useful strategy for older computers. Thank you for your help. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Unable to install Xubuntu from live USB https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890959 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
