The second issue you mention is bug 1583801.

** Description changed:

My earphones are the one coming with Samsung Galaxy S8 (here:
  https://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/mobile-accessories/phones/samsung-
earphones-tuned-by-akg--gray-eo-ig955bsegus) and on my Ubuntu 18.04
- (dual-boot with Windows 10, Secure Boot enabled) I have two issues with
- them (possibly should report a new bug for the second one?)
+ (dual-boot with Windows 10, Secure Boot enabled)

- 1) Trying to set the volume from my earphones' controls doesn't work, no
+ Trying to set the volume from my earphones' controls doesn't work, no
modification on the volume, the sound bar on Ubuntu doesn't appear in
order to indicate volume change. I would like to change the master
volume, or whatever my common laptop controls do when I up/down the
volume controls on my earphones, like it happens on Windows 10. Why does
the erroneous behavior of being unable to set volume from my earphones
  happen?
-
- 2) Every time I boot or reboot my system and leave the earphones on,
- without unplugging them, i.e. when Ubuntu boots with the headphone plug
- already occupied, I don't get any sound from my headphones, no matter
- how much up and down I turn the volume (from my laptop sound controls),
- i.e. the sound bar moves up and down and I hear no sound. I have to
- unplug and re-plug my earphones and only then does Ubuntu recognize them
- and ask me to select "Headset/Headset with mic/Mic". How can I fix it,
- so that I don't have to replug every time I boot?
