I am affected by this too, in Hardy Heron. My Workspace Switcher Applet has an entirely different interface in Compiz than it does in Metacity. In Compiz, setting it to 2x2 workspaces makes the botom row of workspaces unusable and Compiz continues to recognise only two workspaces despite

Actually, that was not sufficient; I still had a ghost row underneath the proper workspaces in Compiz. Briefly switching to Metacity, by disabling desktop effects in Appearance Visual Effects and changing the workspace switchers prefs in Metacity to display all workspaces in one row got rid of
