Someone told me that the output from journalctl would be useful. I reduced the ginormous output to the stuff from 19 Dec. When it starts (Dec 19 19:37:20), things were still broken. Non sure at what time I got it working, but at some point I did the steps listed in my second post and it was work

It is a problem of conflicting packages I think. I got it working by uninstalling network-manager-openvpn, network-manager-openvpn-gnome, and openvpn-systemd-resolved. This also gets rid of OpenVPN and Surfshark itself, so the two packages need to be reinstalled afterwards. -- You received thi
