Ok so you're no longer hitting the original issue anymore - that's

As to why the file would triple in size, it's because odt is a
compressed zip archive and xml is the uncompressed zip archive:

Nowadays, L.O. doesn't freeze but when I export the .ods file (112 kB), I get a
.xml file of 350 MB !
